San Francisco, CA – June 14th – 17th, 2023 – SynCardia Systems LLC, demonstrates Liberty Driver at ASAIO San Francisco, CA.
On the heels of the FDA approval of the new software updates for the Freedom Driver, SynCardia was out in force at the 2023 Annual Conference of the American Society of Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) held in San Francisco from June 14th through June 17th.
Updates provided by the Company featured demonstrations of:
- Prototypes of the Liberty Driver, SynCardia’s next generation portable driver that will be substantially lighter and smaller than the current Freedom Driver.
- Freedom Driver software updates available since May 1, 2023, that improve cardiac output measurement accuracy, particularly for the new 50cc and 70cc TAH-t implant.
- Additional, pressure reading features for the Freedom Driver that will enable the continuous, real-time readings of patient’s right and left atrial pressures (RAP & LAP), pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP), as well as, systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP & DBP).
The Freedom Driver is a portable driver for the SynCardia TAH-t. It enables patients implanted with the Company’s total artificial heart (TAH) to be weaned off the larger, hospital based C2 Driver. With the Freedom Driver and the next generation Liberty Driver, patients can walk around freely and live at home.
On the lighter side: During a session discussing treatment choices for a hypothetical patient with biventricular failure, ChatGPT and the voting audience (cardiologists and transplant surgeons) concurred that a TAH is the preferred route of therapy over using durable LVAD in this patient.
Our team at SynCardia hopes to see you at ASIAO 2024 and future medical-healthcare events with further updates on these exciting developments. We will keep you posted!
The Liberty Driver and the pressure reading features of the Freedom Driver are not approved for use by patients in the United States, and elsewhere. The devices on display were advanced engineering prototypes in varying stages of development. Please contact info@syncardia.com for more information.
